writing assignment

Insomnia by Jeff Wall

Describing a picture
Everyone all over the world is talking about pictures that have hundreds of meanings and I believe that everyone has different view of pictures. Not only if we apply the principles of photography we end up with a perfect shoot. Today I will take Insomnia by Jeff Wall as an example for what a perfect full of meaning image.

Insomnia was taken in 1994. If we take a quick look to it we find that it is a man lying down to the ground in a small green kitchen. Also the picture popes out all the kitchen elements and appliances like fridge, table, oven, towels, mixer, and dishwasher.

If we study the art of this image we figure that it has many things to tell us about behind the scene. By imagining what led this man to lay down on the ground has many reasons. From my point of view I would say that after having a heavy day of work by the time he got back home he found nothing to eat causing him felling to the ground thinking of what he can do to solve this out which can counted as a narrative in one picture. On the other hand, it reminds me by myself at night in my house searching the kitchen for some munches to eat. However, what the artist refer to is when you don’t have the ability to fell a sleep you will find your self doing non sense things laying in the kitchen is one of them which called insomnia. the only thing that I'm not sure about is why Jeff Wall did not show whole his feet and the lines on the picture are not palince with the frame.

I will conclude with more information about this piece of art, as it is approximately 2m x 1.75m, which gives it the big shape. The price of this image estimated ($110,695 - $144,755). This photo giving me the inspiration of what a real photographers are.
